August Schwer – German Cuckoo Clock
Cuckoo clocks have fascinated generations across the countries.
Highly regarded for their meticulous design and ingenuity, cuckoo clocks are
well-loved and they adorn the living rooms of a million homes.
The origin of this popular clock that has a cuckoo bird chime the
time every hour can be traced to Black Forest (southwestern part) of Germany in
the early 1630s. An inventive clockmaker, Franz Anton Ketterer, designed a
clock with novel features (of a cow being struck down by a butcher and a
skeleton that turned over each hour!).
He added a rooster that said ‘coo-coo’,
and the rest is history. August Schwer German Cuckoo Clock, located right at
the heart of the Black Forest village, has been carrying on this basic cuckoo
clock design since 1885 with unfaltering success.
The chirrupy cuckoo has not stopped tweeting in over 300 years
now!
