August Schwer – German Cuckoo Clock

Cuckoo clocks have fascinated generations across the countries. Highly regarded for their meticulous design and ingenuity, cuckoo clocks are well-loved and they adorn the living rooms of a million homes. The origin of this popular clock that has a cuckoo bird chime the time every hour can be traced to Black Forest (southwestern part) of Germany in the early 1630s. An inventive clockmaker, Franz Anton Ketterer, designed a clock with novel features (of a cow being struck down by a butcher and a skeleton that turned over each hour!). He added a rooster that said ‘ coo-coo’, and the rest is history. August Schwer German Cuckoo Clock , located right at the heart of the Black Forest village, has been carrying on this basic cuckoo clock design since 1885 with unfaltering success.
